The Life of Asa Philip Randolph

Asa Philip Randolph was born Apr 15, 1889 in Crescent City, United States - May 16, 1979 New York, United States (age 90.) Asa was an American unionist and a civl right activist also participated in protests. He knew famous people such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Milton P. Webster. Asa education was from the schools City College of New York. Asa also founded the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters in 1928. Sleeping Car Porters was "the first labor organization led by African Americans to receive a charter in the American Federation of Labor." A few famous quotes from Asa was "Freedom is never given it is won," and "I am prepared to oppose a Jim Crow army till I rot in jail." His wife name was Lucille Green (1914 - 1963) she was an specialist in Psychiatry and Nurse Practitioner. Asa didn't have any children, but his brother name was James Randolph. Information about his parents was "The second son of the Rev. James William Randolph, a tailor and minister in an African Methodist Episcopal Church, and Elizabeth Robinson Randolph, a skilled seamstress. Asa was also close friends with the 16th President Abraham Lincoln while they worked together for freedom rights. Asa business Sleeping Car Porters was the first successful Black Trade Union. While not knowing the cause of his death, it was confirmed he died in New York at the age of 90, on the day May 16 1979.
